Using Excel
Objective:  The learner will conduct a survey and record the results in Excel creating a graph.

Steps:
1.  Determine the topic for the survey.
Suggestions:  Favorite ice cream flavor, favorite TV show, favorite subject at school, favorite food, favorite sport, amount of time spent watching TV

2.  Create survey giving respondents 4-5 options.
Example:
Favorite ice cream flavor:  vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, orange

3.  Conduct survey and talley responses

4.  Record tallies on Excel Spreadsheet.  A sample spreadsheet can be downloaded from the Internet.
 

Directions:
1.  Open Excel
2.  Click inside row 1, column A and type the name of the survey.  Then press enter on the keyboard

3.  Click in row 2, column A
Type the option title and press enter

4.  Click in row 2, column B
Type "total votes" and press enter

5.  Click in row 3, column A and type the first option

6.  Click in row 3, column b and type the total number of votes for that option

6.  Continue this method until all options and votes are inserted.

Creating A Graph
1.  Highlight all data (rows 1-6, columns A-B)

2.  Click the Chart Wizard button on the toolbar.

3.  Choose the type of chart and click Next.

4.  Click Next again.

Click the Data Labels tab and then choose "Show Percent"
Click Next.

Click As new sheet and click Finish

Congratulations!  You have created a graph to go with your survey.

The final step is to save your work.
Click File...Save As...type survey and your name.  This will save your spreadsheet and your graph.
