Begin the lesson with students estimate the speed of lightning. Lighting – The Shocking Story

How fast is light: use the equation speed = distance/time? Allow the students to calculate the time it takes for light to travel to the sun to earth.  Earth is 150 billion meters from earth; and the speed of light is 300 million meters per second.
