Curriculum Area:  Mathematics and Science

Grade Level:  8th grade

Length of Webquest: 2-3 weeks

Purpose:  To allow the students to explore the Metric and U.S. Systems of Measurement by analyzing mathematical conversions, developing mathematical equations and making comparisons.

7.12.2 Identify and measure the simple properties of common substances.

 4.0 The student will become familiar with the units and processes of measurement in order to use a variety of tools, techniques, and formulas to determine and to estimate measurements in mathematical and real-world problems

a.       Identify the mass, volume, density, boiling point, melting point, and solubility of a given substance.

4.1 Understand measurable attributes of objects and the units, systems, and processes of measurement.

a.       Measure and/or calculate the mass, volume, density, and temperature of a given substance.

4.2 Apply appropriate techniques, tools, and formulas to determine measurements.

7.4.spi.3. convert from one unit to another within the same system;

7.4.tpi.1. understand and use both metric and customary systems of measurement;
