World Geography 2009-2010

Welcome to World Geography!  To have a successful journey through World Geography, please understand the importance of doing your best on each assignment.  The following general guidelines will help you to understand how your grades are calculated.  IF YOU HAVE TROUBLE BEING RESPONSIBLE, YOU WILL HAVE A DIFFICULT TIME PASSING THIS CLASS!!!

Classwork/Homework: 25%  Each student will receive a 3-digit number that is to be used in place of a name on all classwork/homework papers.  Failure to do so may result in lost points on that assignment.  Most of these assignments will be done in class.   You will be given a date by which the papers are due.  On the date that graded papers are returned to students, it will be too late to accept any more of those assignments.  Some assignments will be activities in class that may not involve a paper to turn in.  It will be important that the assignment be done during the appropriate time while we are still covering the related material.     YOU MUST BE RESPONSIBLE.

Students who cheat on a homework assignment will receive a zero for that assignment.  This applies to the person copying answers and to the person who allows his or her paper to be copied.  If you are absent on a day when we answer questions on a study guide, you should ask a friend for those answers.  It is your responsibility to find out about any assignments or tests that may have been missed.

Tests: 25%  During each grading period, you will take several tests over the material covered in class.  A study guide will be provided for each topic.  The completed study guides should be reviewed carefully before each test.  The student’s 3-digit number (not a name) should be on all tests.  Failure to use this number may result in a loss of points on that test.  There should be no talking or cheating of any kind during a test.  Cheating will result in a zero for that test.  Tests that are missed should be made up as soon as possible.  If a student waits too long, it will be necessary to take a test in a “short answer” format only.  These are much harder, so please do you best to keep up.  YOU MUST BE RESPONSIBLE.

Projects: 25%  There will be two projects assigned each nine weeks.  Details for each will be given well in advance of the due date.  Be sure to have your project in on time.  YOU MUST BE RESPONSIBLE.

Folder: 10%  Folders will be checked near the end of the grading period.  Each folder should have completed study guides for each test that has been given during the grading period, along with all other assignments.  You will receive a contents page to help you keep up.  The pages are all numbered, so there is no excuse for not having your work in the folder and in the correct order.  Please make sure to keep it neat, both inside and out.  YOU MUST BE RESPONSIBLE.

Nine Weeks Test: 15%  A comprehensive test will be given at the end of each grading period.  The study guides for the tests given during the nine weeks will be the basis for this test.  Remember that cheating will result in a zero.  It is almost impossible to pass when the nine weeks test grade is a zero.

Extra Credit  A limited amount of extra credit will be accepted each grading period.  It is up to the student to decide what to submit, as long as it is on the subject being discussed at the time.
