Centertime

During this time of day, I am learning responsibility.
I have to record each center that I complete on my name tag.
I must mark out my name on the center checklist.
My job is to help clean up when my teacher sings the clean-up song.
"Clean-up time is here again, here again, here again.
Clean-up time is here again, it's clean-up time again.
Put your toys and blocks away, games away, puzzles away.
Put your dishes and books away.
It's clean-up time once more."

PET CENTER

Feeding the fish helps me to learn responsibility and to care for others.

A hermit crab needs very little care, but be sure that he always has water. He is very quiet during the day.

SCIENCE CENTER

In this center, through the use of all five senses, I will learn about:
plants, animals, fossils, weather, natural resources,
chemistry, the five senses, physical properties of objects,
magnets, measurement, and health.
I will develop skills in
predicting, hypothesizing, problem-solving, comparing,
observing, generalizing, and evaluating.
During cooking experiences I will learn:
measurement, safety, chemistry, and nutrition. I will learn to read recipes,
to identify numerals and letters,
food sources, to share, to take turns, and to try new foods.

ART CENTER

In this center I will learn:
to be creative
to color, cut, paint, glue, and model
about colors, space, texture
about shapes.
I will also develop the following skills necessary for
reading and writing:
eye-hand coordination
fine muscle development
figure-ground relationships
Emotional satisfaction occurs as this center helps children
relax and learn to turn to crafts and their hands to express
their feelings and ideas.

BOOK CENTER

In this center I will:
improve my listening and speaking skills
understand the relationship between books and reading

learn to think
develop my eye muscles
refine my visual discrimination
improve auditory discrimination, and to
enjoy and treat books with respect.
Each day I will hear stories and look at books about
children, animals, places, fantasies, families, machines,
emotions, humor, and nature.

operate the equipment
use the keyboard
solve problems
take proper care of the equipment
follow directions
make choices from a menu
I will learn that computers can make jobs easier and quicker
that technology is rapidly becoming essential to our everyday life.
I will learn to use the computer keyboard through the play of simple math and language games.

HOME LIVING CENTER

In this center I will learn to:
interact with others
take turns and share
take care of materials
act out adult roles
associate home, school, and community
use large and small muscles
concepts such as one-to-one correspondence
new vocabulary words
It is here that I will work through some of my perceptions of adult roles.
I will have the opportunity to express creativity in fantasy, as
well as the big job of sorting through reality and
distinguishing it from fantasy.
Here I can play
through life’s issues and concerns.
