On Friday, March 18th, the Resource students got to experience different activities involving the solar system. We have been studying the solar system since January. We have learned many facts. We had a learning center full of activities that the students loved. We made a galaxy out of chalk and construction paper. We filled out a space journey application. We wrote silly stories using story starters about the different planets. We even made an edible solar system (which can't be eaten now because it has glue on it!). Today, we made galaxy cookies, stars in a box, and a Solar System booklet.
Instructions
Edible Solar System
On a black piece of construction paper, glue a butterscotch disc for
the sun, sweet tarts, jujibes, twizzlers (for the rings of planets), and
any other round candy for the different planets. Be sure they are
in order! Use other candies and candy sprinkles for the asteroids
and comets. Use chalk to label planets.
Stars in Box
Use a piece of construction paper and cut out a cross.
With a thumbtack, make holes in a piece of construction and make a
constellation.
Fold the cross into a box and tape.
Cut out a circle so you can view your constellation!
Galaxy cookies
Put cake icing on sugar cookie. Spread sprinkles around to make a galaxy shape. Eat!
