FILM VERSIONS OF HAMLET

Kenneth Branagh's Hamlet (1998)
This is the version we watch in class. It's 100% uncut, totally word-for-word from the play. I highly recommend it (that's
why I show it in class)! Stars Branagh, Kate Winslet, Derek Jacobi, & many Hollywood notables in small roles.
Ethan Hawke's Hamlet (2000)
This a 2000 version of Hamlet,  completely updated. Our young prince is a modern-day guy whose uncle has taken over the family media business (Denmark Inc). Interesting, & provides another view on the classic. Stars Ethan Hawke, Julia Stiles, Bill Murray (bizarre), & many more. You can find it at Blockbuster in Jeff City.
Mel Gibson's Hamlet (1991)
This version is OK, especially if you like Mel. It's very dark (as in lighting) & often hard to tell who's who. It's very chopped & condensed. Stars Gibson, Glenn Close, & more.
