Putting it Together

Subject / Predicate Practice

Before the Activity: Using Word type a sentence strip with only a subject. Create another sentence strip with only a predicate.  Complete 16 subject and predicate strips.

Some predicates must have obvious wrong answers.

Example Subjects:                       Example Predicates

My sister Jan                                    sleeps all the time.

The football player                                    caught the ball.

The blue ball                                    rolled down the hill.

Barbara                                            is playing outside.

Teachers                                          enjoy their students.

The Activity:  Divide the students into 4 groups (or as many as desired by  the teacher). Each group has to make complete sentences with the subjects and predicates given to them. This activity allows students to distinguish subjects and predicates. This activity can also help students with subject and verb agreement by using correct and incorrect tenses of the verbs.
