Popcorn words are words that "pop up" in lots of places where one may be reading. Sometimes called sight words, popcorn words can not be sounded out. They are words we simply must recognize by sight. The list below are the popcorn words learned in kindergarten throughout the year. The column on the left are words taught according to our Scott Foresman Reading Series and assessed each nine weeks. Various other sight words, which are listed at the right, are taught but not assessed. Kindergarten students feel so successful when they spot popcorn words everywhere they turn!
