Student Samples

Student 1
1. Last week in math I learned how to do integers.

2. I want to learn more about how to do 1 step equations with integers.

3. My favorite part of math last week was we sat there and coped answers.

4. The hardest part of math last week was learning how to do 1 step equations with integers.

5. I need more help understanding why you change the sign when the variable is negative.

Student 2
1. Last week in math, I learned how to divide integers, by dividing regularly and if the signs are the same it’s positive (+), and if the signs are different then it’s negative (-).

2. I want to learn more about algebra, because I have to learn it in high school.

3.My favorite part of math last week was doing the problems on the board, and doing algebra, and equations.

4The hardest part of math last week was solving equations, because I didn’t understand it at first.

5.I need more help understanding equations, because I need to be able to work them without it taking me a long time.

Student 3
1. Last week in math I learned how to find the greatest common factor and least common multiple by using prime factorization. You start out with a monomial, which is a number, a number times a variable, or just a variable. Then you create a factor tree. In the end, you should end up with a product of prime numbers. In finding GCF, you would find the common numbers that appear in both trees and multiply them together to get the GCF. If you are trying to find LCM, then you get the common numbers that appear in both trees and multiply them together. Then you would get the uncommon factors and multiply them by the answer you got from the common numbers and that would give you the LCM.

2. I want to learn more about simplifying fractions that have variables in them because they are somewhat hard. That is, until you understand them.

3. My favorite part of math last week was doing our daily math problems. We do these problems every day. They are problems that help us review skills that we have learned in the past, or sometimes they are like brainteasers.

4. The hardest part of math last week was simplifying fractions with variables because I have never had them before. Now that I know how to do them, they seem easy.

5. I need more help understanding the rule of how to simplify fractions with variables. We went over it, but Mrs. Shelton said that we were just jumping ahead. I sort of understand it, but I do not all of the way.
