MathNet Goals 2000 Grant Timeline

The MathNet timetable of objectives is as follows:
August 2000  Pre-in-service training for the nine MathNet teachers from grades 2-4 in the use of hardware and software.  Internet project databases will be searched for Internet projects and activities, which stress math objectives for class participation.  Staff development seminars provided by EarthWalk and Orchard Teacher’s Choice Software will be conducted.
September 2000 An assessment will be made of student’s 1999-2000 Terra Nova math scores using the TestMate Clarity program.  STAR Math test administered.  These reports will enable the teacher to track students and develop a listing of mastery, partial mastery, or non-mastery scores for students for each math objective tested.  This information along with the Orchard SkillFinder will be used to diagnose student weaknesses. 
October 2000 Students will create math journal entries to be hosted on the MathNet web site using the Orchard Software and MS Word.  First quarterly training session will be held for participating teachers at the technology center.
November 2000 Students will create PowerPoint multimedia presentation to create interactive math story problems to be hosted on the MathNet web site downloadable by other classes. 
December 2000 Participants will use Internet bookmarks of web sites and participate in Internet projects that will be useful in the mastery of math objectives. 
January 2001 STAR Math test administered.  Student progress will be assessed and necessary modifications made.  Though the use of email and ICQ communication, participating classes will work with each other and surrounding schools to broaden the reach of the project though math competitions.  Second quarterly training session will be held for participating teachers at the technology center.
February 2001 Students will utilize Excel to create graphs and charts based on a real world situation.  These will be shared with parents and others through the MathNet web site.
March & April 2001 Students will prepare a MathNet Showcase for parents and the community.  Students will demonstrate skills they have learned throughout the year and present PowerPoint presentations and the MathNet website. Post testing of students will be conducted using Terra Nova testing.  Third quarterly training session will be held for participating teachers at the technology center.
May 2001 This month will be used for final evaluation of the MathNet project and conclusion of Internet Projects.  Teachers and parents will complete an evaluation of the integration of technology into the math curriculum through participation in MathNet.  Final quarterly training session will be held for participating teachers at the technology center.  STAR Math test administered to determine student progress.
