A crowd of
over 80 showed up for the ninth annual “Celebrate Literacy”
banquet on April 19th sponsored by the Mossy Creek Literacy Council to
honor young student authors! The banquet was held at Piedmont
Elementary School where all attendees enjoyed a good meal and awards
program! Fifteen students from Jefferson County Schools and
Grainger County Schools were recognized for publishing their own books
and winning awards from the Tennessee Reading Association. At the
banquet, the students were awarded with honorable mention, bronze,
silver, or gold medals and certificates. They also received a book of
their choice by the nationally known children’s author, Dr.
Michael Shoulders. After the awards ceremony, Michael Shoulders gave a
very entertaining presentation about being an author, writing books,
and researching topics for books. He showed slides from some of his
thirteen published children’s books. The event was most
informative and entertaining! Congratulations student authors!
