“Celebrate Literacy Young Authors Contest" is an annual event sponsored by the Mossy Creek Literacy Council, a local council of Tennessee Reading Association (TRA).
Teachers and/or parents, please encourage your students in grades K-5 to submit a “published” book to his or her local school. The deadline is early February each year. Fourteen local winners from Jefferson and Grainger County will be selected from among those entered. Those fourteen books will be sent on to the state level. Students will be awarded gold, silver, or bronze medals as well as a certificate by the Tennessee Reading Association.
Students and their teachers will be recognized at the Mossy Creek Literacy Council’s annual banquet at Carson-Newman College. All books must be turned in to the literacy coach at the young author's school to be eligible for the contest. No worries! All books will be returned to the young authors when the contest is complete. Please see the “Celebrate Literacy Award Program Guidelines” as well as the “Official Entry Blank” which must accompany each book. Please encourage all young authors to participate!
