The New Market Elementary School library program is an integral part of
the school curriculum. Students in grades 1-5 attend library
class
once a week for forty minutes. Kindergarten students attend
two thirty minute library classes each week. During class
students
participate in story time, literature response activities, library
skill,
or research lessons, as well as locate books for check-out. Third
graders, fourth graders and fifth graders also learn to use the
library's computerized search
program. This search program helps them to locate books in the
library
which will support classroom lessons or provide for their reading
enjoyment. Students in grades 2-5 also have the opportunity to
come to the library on their own to check out books during specified
"Open Library" times.
