From
the Teacher

Welcome to Ms. Muncy's class. We are excited about
learning together this year!

Some topics we will
be covering this year in Science will be: changes in landforms,
animal behaviors, plants, weather conditions, the Solar System, oceans,
electricity and magnetism, food chains and food webs, properties of matter,
work, and energy. Lots of experiments are planned! Students will be
required to do research for project reports on sea animals, land animals,
weather projects and planets.
Social Studies will be
especially interesting as we learn about the early American development.
Units on Native Americans, early explorers, colonies, and the
creating of our government will be covered.
Reading, as always, will be an
important aspect of our day. I ask that each student read at least 20
minutes every night as an assignment. For other Literacy Activities you
can help your child at home with, please click Language arts on the home page.
Book reports will be required every month as we explore the different
genres of writing. If a child is successful in reading, then success will
be likely in other subjects. Vocabulary words for our Reading text can be
found here: Vocabulary
words.
Spelling lists will be given out on Mondays as
a pretest. These can also be found at "Spelling words" As challenge words, we will use words from the list of the Nifty Fifty, and
the most commonly
misspelled words.
We will also be responsible for learning
vocabulary words from our Social Studies and Science units.
