  • Text still patterned with more word changes (may have two patterns)

  • More words (8-30 words on a page)

  • More lines per page (2-7 lines)

  • Print gets smaller

  • Placement of text may vary

  • More punctuation

  • More of a storyline

  • Increased difficulty of concepts

  • Contractions

  • Complex sentences emerging

  • Some paragraphs emerging

  • More difficult vocabulary

  • Prefixes and suffixes
