Grades 3-5 August 24

Grades 6-8 September 1

Grades 3-5 will have a timed writing practice day on August 24.

Every grade 3, 4, and 5 student in every classroom will write a timed (35 minutes) rough draft following the state writing assessment guidelines on August 24th. Please follow the given practice prompts for your grade. (Prompts were suggested by Jefferson County teachers from grades 3-5.) The draft will be a personal narrative.

Please use the practice lined paper that was given to grade 5 teachers last year. (If you need a copy, please see your Literacy Coach.) Remember to include pre-writing time in the 35 minutes (about 15 minutes is suggested for the first practice session). Pre-writing suggestions include a 4 square.)

Please score the papers according to the state writing rubric. This first paper is only a benchmark. You may or may not choose to grade the paper. We will be doing three practice prompts this school year.
