LESSON PLANS AND UNITS

Purpose: Students will find the mean and median speed for the Indianapolis 500. Rates per lap will be calculated as well as the length of each lap. Students will need to research information via the Internet.
It is a well organized web page that contains an outline for a lesson plan. This site also contains the links needed to do other research for this activity. This is a higher order thinking activity that applies to student interest.

In this track, students will use the Internet to first locate a lesson plan which guides them through the process to determine the probability that a specific letter would appear in a Wheel of Fortune puzzle. Next, students will log onto a news web site in order to locate a paragraph of written text. Next, students will use the information they learned while completing the lesson plan's worksheet to play a round of Wheel of Fortune and hangman. The unit addresses the learning gap from Algebra 2 Standard 4.0, Statistics and Probability: The student will collect, organize, represent, and interpret data; make and evaluate inferences and predictions; present and evaluate arguments based on data analysis; and model situations to determine theoretical and experimental probability. This is a useful site that gives the links to all parts of the lesson plan. This is a higher order thinking activity.

The Annenberg/CPB Project has created this Learner online experience that uses the familiar example of polling a random sample of the population for a political race. Key concepts in statistics are demonstrated and emphasized: true random samples, confidence levels, margin of error. This is an interactive site; participation is required to progress through the learning experience! The everyday examples and links to other more detailed sites make this a wonderful resource for any student as an overview to statistics.

This web site should be used by the teacher to look for software that will be applicable in their classroom.
This resource center is for the students, teachers, researchers, and others who are using (or thinking about using) Fathom Dynamic Statistics™ Software in their studies, their teaching, or their work. Its purpose is to provide information about Fathom and how it is being used, as well as resources to facilitate its use. This is useful site that also contains links to other information about related products.
This site contains software reviews about software that is applicable for statistics. It is computer-based training products.  These products offer rich and deep content, several methods for navigating through the content and many opportunities for interactivity and is developed by Data Description.
