This is a good place for a teacher to begin a unit. It provides
an Internet worksheet for which the answers can be found by browsing the
site. An answer sheet is also provided. This could possibly
be a pretest to assess prior knowledge. The information provided
is general, but well delivered. Students will enjoy the “scavenger
hunt” aspect of searching for answers.
This site’s homepage is “Mr. Donn’s Pages” and is located at http://members.aol.com/donnandlee/SiteIndex.html
The home page contains easily navigable links to every subject, catagorized
by grade level. The initial link given is to the 5-8 Grade, Science
section. There, you will find an excellent lesson plan about human
body systems, as well as fossils, earth & sky, whales, etc. This
site is created and maintained by Mr. Donn and his wife. Both are
teachers AND history buffs. Teachers, as well as students will find
this site useful.
This is a great, interactive webquest for kids. Albert Einstein
has been frozen for years, and now its time for you and your group to be
minimized and injected into him to inspect his body systems for possible
damage from the freeze.
You are an alien sent to earth to learn how to replicate the human body
and all its systems. A great webquest, this site not only teaches
students the parts of each system, but how the systems work together to
make the human body come alive. Students will benefit from this site
and will remain interested in the subject matter.
Interesting, indeed! Take a guided, narrative tour through the
human body by way of various cross sections captured in 2D, then placed
in movie format to become 3D. Middle school students will love this:
teachers will too when they realize the interest it sparks in the human
body systems. A great place for teachers to make learning fun.
This site caters to grades 6 – 8 because it leads students to “forget”
they are learning. The students can do such things as work crossword
puzzles and take part in online science chats with students across the
country. Teachers will benefit from this site, also, because the activities
can be done independently as structured-center learning. This site
also has excellent, royalty-free clipart available.
Education World is a site that no teacher should do without. This
is a particular article on lesson planning for human body systems.
It includes a variety of links to follow – up activities, related web site
links, and related articles. This is a great place for teachers to
find something unusual to keep students interested. The only drawback
to this site is that some of the links are outdated or are not available
PATTS (Partners in Training and Teaching Technology and Services)
This site is useful for middle school students who are studying anatomy
or what additional information about the human body. One of the supplied
links is for copyright-free human anatomy clipart. Also contains
a webliography.
BodyQuest won the 3rd place award in the Science and Mathematics category
of ThinkQuest'97. It is a site created to explore anatomy and is
targeted for students ages 11 – 16. This website also leads the student
to higher order thinking. This is a great place for students to participate
in independent activities that will expand on classroom teaching.
* Higher order thinking is an advantage to subject matter retention
in middle school students.
Kid Info is a wonderful starting place for subject matter. Included
in the links are sites with clipart, movie and animation sites, as well
as extensive links to encyclopedia pages. This page would be useful
to both students AND teachers due to the variety of resources. The
site begins generally, with informative pages about the body, and works
down to specific pages dealing with individual organs, cell, systems, etc.
Some links are in Spanish, too!
