Lesson plans and units

The purpose of this site is for teachers to get lesson plans that they can use in their classrooms.  This site has many different lesson plans on the Civil War.  These lessons are designed to get the student involved in the event and keep the children active in learning and interested in the topic.

This is a good site it has many new and inventive lesson plans for the teacher that will be fun for the students.

Internet Teaching tools
The purpose of this site is to let students learn about slavery.  This site offers many different learning activities.  In one section, the student can witness a slave auction and in another they can take on a role of a character at that time and see what they went through on an everyday basis.

This is an excellent site.  I found it very interesting and fun.

Reference Tool

The purpose of this site is for research to use in something like a paper.  This site tells about the civil war the causes, the battles, and the affects of the war.

This is an excellent site it is good for students and teachers alike.  Teachers can use this site to gather information for their lessons and students can use it as a reference for papers.

Print resource

The purpose of this site is to provide viewers with readings about slaves.  This site has many accounts and writings about and by slaves.  The accounts are organized into 46 chapters.  This site includes accounts and writings by people such as Frederick Douglas, Nat Turner, Harriet Tubman, and John Brown.

This is a good site to find evidence that can be presented in class.  The accounts could then be analyzed and discussed.  These writings can also be used by students as references in their reports.

Lesson plans

The purpose of this site is to provide educators with lesson plans for middle school classes that meet the curriculum standards.  This site is designed for teachers in grades 5-7.  It contains the curriculum standard that the lesson plans meet.  As for the lessons there are eight of them and a test on this site.  Each one of them has an optional video.

These lessons are great.  They give a good overview of the civil war in a time frame that will fit in with the scheduled amount of time allotted for teaching this subject.

The purpose of this site is to let the students gather information on the topic of the Donnor party and the Oregon trail to come to their own conclusion.  In this activity students are allowed to search a site where they are given background information and other documents about western expansion.  They then come up with the answers to five questions who, what, when, where, why, and how.

This is a fun site.  It is a great way for students to learn on their own and have fun at the same time.

Content resource

The purpose of this site is to provide educators and students with information about the settlement of the midwestern region.  This page has a description of the way that the Midwest was settled and goes all the way up to modern times.  It covers the Civil War and industrialization.

This is a very informative page that offers information that will be useful in teaching, learning and writing reports.

Internet teaching tool

The purpose of this site is to let students play an interactive game about the Lewis and Clark expedition.  This site is an interactive game of the Lewis and Clark expedition.  The student puts in his or her own name and keeps a log of their journey.  Along the way they are the captain of the expedition and get to make all of the decisions.

This is a great site.  I enjoyed playing the game and seeing how my own expedition turned out.

He purpose of this site is to let the viewer learn all they can about the Oregon Trail.  This site contains information about the Oregon Trail, including the actual route and other things from the trail, historical sites, what life was like on the trail, Lewis and Clark, and many other aspects related to the Trail.  This site also has list of videos, books, and cassettes that are about the Oregon Trail.

This was a very well written and informative site.  I like the fact that it has list of other sources that will allow teachers to teach about or people to learn about the Oregon Trial.

Reference tool

The purpose of this site is to provide basic information to viewers on the westward movement of Americans from the war of 1812 to about 1850.  This site gives information about events key to the westward expansion such as the war of 1812, The Battle of Tippecanoe, The battle of Horseshoe Bend, and The Missouri Compromise.  It also provides facts about important documents such as the Monroe Doctrine and the Adams-Onis Treaty.

This is an excellent site to find information on the events that surrounded the westward expansion.  It also contains links to many other helpful sites.
