Scholarship Update                              November

1.      Travel is Education- Open to all 9-12 students.  Must present artwork, photography or creative writing expressing travel is education theme.  $1000 pre-college student summer program. Deadline January 11, 2008.

2.    AXA Achievement Scholarship-well-rounded students committed to making a difference.  For an application visit http://www.axa-achievement.com  Deadline is December 15, 2007

3.    Ayn Rand Institute- 9 & 10 graders.  Read the book Anthem and respond to essay topic.  600-1200 words.  Deadline is March 20, 2008.  Visit www.aynrand.org/contests

4.    Ayn Rand Institute- 11 & 12 graders.  Read the book Fountainhead and respond to essay topic.  800-1600 words.  Deadline is April 25, 2008.  Visit www.aynrand.org/contests

6.    Miss Cheerleader of America-  application is followed by interviews at the state level and then students proceed to national level.  Visit http://misscheerleaderofamerica.com/index.html

7.    Simon Youth Foundation- Knoxville Center Mall offering a $1200 scholarship based on academics, leadership, participation in school and community and financial need.  Deadline is January 31, 2008.  For applications ask at the Marketplace at the mall, or visit http://www.simonyouth.scholarshipamerica.org/

9.    American Fire Sprinkler Association Scholarship: essay contest offering regional and national winners.  Apply online at http://www.afsascholarship.org/  Entries accepted from now until April 11, 2008.

10.            Walmart Scholarship- Each local store provides a $1000 scholarship to students—you do not have to work there!  The scholarship MUST be completed on-line and an authorization form printed and mailed in with requested information by the deadline.  Students will need to enter the code for the scholarship (SWCS) and our local Wal-Mart 0724.  Students will need parent SSN and adjusted gross income from last year to apply for scholarship. 11. NFIB Education Foundation- advocates for small business, students write an essay on the importance of free enterprise and entrepreneurial achievement.  Apply starting November 12th. http://www.nfib.com/page/nfibYoungEntrepreneurAward.html

12.            Johnson & Wales University- national student organization scholarship.  If you are a member of a technical organization and interested in the school pick up an application in room 510.

13.            American Planning Association- open to juniors or seniors.  Write an essay based on creating a green neighborhood plan.  Deadline January 15, 2008.  Visit http://www.planning.org/institutions/hsessay.htm

14.            UTK Dept of Nuclear Engineering Pasqua Scholarship-for students who have completed physics and plan on majoring in nuclear engineering.  Applications accepted year round.

15.            Tennessee Tech University Stonecipher Mathematics Scholarship- students enrolling as a math major with at least a 3.0 in all math courses.  Apply to TTU by December 15th and complete Stonecipher Scholarship by January 15, 2008.

16.            National Commission for Cooperative Education- 185 co-op scholarships offered for 10 colleges including Johnson& Wales.  Visit www.co-op.edu for more information and deadline February 15, 2008.

17.            National Wild Turkey Federation- brief essay on a hunting experience and application form due by January 1, 2008 to local chapter. For more information visit www.nwtf.org

18.            Tennessee Concrete Association- concrete essay contest for students age 16-18.  Deadline November 27, 2007.  visit www.tnconcrete.org

19.            Comcast Leaders and Achievers Scholarship- students with a 2.8 GPA or higher, demonstrated leadership abilities, strong commitment to community service provide Mrs. Roach with an activity resume by November 30, 2007.  One student will be selected to represent JCHS.

20.          Gates Millennium Scholars- students who are African American, American Indian, Alaska native, Asian Pacific Islander or Hispanic American citizens with a 3.3 GPA and financial need can apply for program.  Deadline is December 31, 2007
