We will begin the year using our English Textbook along with the reading series.  We will also be doing Mountain Language and using the Shurley Method. 

Every day, the students will answer the assigned daily questions for Mountain Language in their DOL (Daily Oral Learning) notebook.  The questions stay the same throughout the year- it is the words on the board that change. When the students have completed 1-20, and we have gone over the material for each number, they will be given a worksheet to complete for a grade.  This typically happens on Friday, unless we have a short week. Mountain Language is a great review. 

Shurley Method is a method of learning the parts of speech, and being able to diagram a sentence.  What is the easiest thing for us to learn?  For me, it is songs.  I can hear a song on the radio a few times, and I know every word.  Well, the developer of the Shurley Method took this information about how we learn, and created this awesome program.  We sing jingles to learn different English skills. 

We will be working on our writing skills throughout the year.  We will be doing 4 square writing.  This is an amazing technique that can aide ANYONE, even me, when writing a paragraph.
