Events and Reminders:
Welcome Back!
(Well, almost :-)
o
I
hope that you all have a very Merry Christmas and I wish you all the best
blessings in 2010!
o
Our
week of Christmas Festivities was a wonderful success. Thanks so much to ALL of you! I think that the kids had a great time. I could not have pulled it off without you
wonderful parents. To all of you who
volunteered, sent things in, and helped in many ways, I am greatly appreciative!
o
We
ended up with a really nice bunch of gifts for the family that we adopted. I am so proud of these 1st graders
(and you) for the beautiful display of generosity!
SNOW PLAN!!
o
Please
note that there will be a form in your child’s folder on the 1st day back to school. It is all about early Dismissal at DES.
o
Please
fill this out and return it to me THE VERY NEXT DAY.
It is very important that I know how you would like for your child to
get home in the event of inclement weather.
o
Please
DO NOT depend on calling my cell in the even to inclement weather. It is often not reliable in the building and
trust me, things are wild enough on those daysJ! Thanks so much for your cooperation on this!
o
If
there is no form on file for your child, it is school policy to send them home
in usual way.
Normal Routine?
o
It
looks like getting back into a normal routine may not be in the plans this
week! I’ve decided to take this week to
review and get back into the hang of just being here everyday!
o
Please
work on these things at home as well. We
have LOTS more to learn before heading off to Second Grade is just five short
months!
Fry Sight Words
·
I
am sending home a list of the 200 Fry Words that your child will be tested on at
the end of the year. They are in your
child’s folder in the Practice Daily section.
·
These
words are included in our weekly word wall words. Please be sure that your child is working on
them.
Math Facts
·
A
packet containing all of the Math Facts that we will cover this year are also
in your child’s folder. Please be sure
that your child is working on these facts.
·
We
are up to Lesson 61 “Adding 2”. Please
note that these facts get more and more challenging as the year
progresses. It is important to continue
drilling the ones from past weeks as your child learns new facts. These will build upon one another.
S
pelling Words
·
I
am also sending a packet with the spelling lists that we have covered so far
this year.
·
We
will have some dictation tests that will include preciously covered words.
·
Your
child will also be graded on spelling ability in as they write in journals and
other assignments.
G
rammar Concepts
·
We
will review the following skills:
o
Sentences: Complete, Naming Parts, Action Parts, Word
Order, Telling Sentences, Questions
o
Nouns: People, Places, Things, Animals, Proper
Nouns, Special Titles, Days, Months, Holidays, One and More Than One, Uses in
Sentences.
READ, READ, READ!
·
Most
students are doing a great job with their reading logs! I am so proud of all of them. Please be sure to read for AT LEAST 15
minutes with you child each evening (including weekends and holidays). You should log EVERYTHING that you guys read,
not just the books that I send home.
This will help you child and our class meet our goals for the Million
Minute Campaign.
Ice Cream Friday
o
We
have ice cream every Friday. The cost is
$.50. Please be sure that your child has ice cream money if you would like
them to have an ice cream. I will
offer an alternative snack to those who do not have money.
Reading News:
We will dive back into our 1st grade
curriculum next week. We will read the stories “An Egg is an Egg” and “Nothing
Fits.” You will find the stories, word
wall words, and spelling words on the Unit 3 Week One Practice Page in your
child’s folder.
