·         Will consist of all of your work —notes, homework, classwork, quizzes, tests, and extra paper). Do NOT throw items away unless I specifically tell you to—we will clean out notebooks periodically, but we will do this as a class.

·         There will be a notebook check after each test—more on this later!!!

·         Notebooks should be separated with tab dividers into the following sections (in this order):

q       Handouts

q       Notes

q       Daily Work

q       Quizzes/Tests

q       Misc.

IV.                DAILY ASSIGNMENTS:

v      General Guidelines

You can check the website to find out what your assignment is. Go to the WPS webpage and follow the links to my class webpage, or go directly to this address:

v      Late Work Policy:

v      Make-Up Policy:

q       You are responsible for any work due or assigned while you are absent!!!!  This includes tests, quizzes, notes, daily work, journal entries, & skill packets.

q       When you are absent, check with me for your assignments. You will need to get any notes missed in your absence from one of your classmates.

q       You have one makeup day for every day absent. For example, if you are absent 2 days, you have 2 days to make-up your work.

q       If you are absent on a quiz or test day, please see me as soon as you return so we can schedule a make-up.

q       If you are going to be absent for more than 2 days, you should send someone to gather your assignments for you.

v      How your work will be graded:

q       Work is graded one of two ways: either for accuracy and effort OR for completion and effort.  (see below for how it will be graded):

Homework/Classwork (graded for accuracy & effort):

When I grade for accuracy and effort, I am not just looking for the correct answer.  It is possible to work a problem correctly up until the last step and then make a careless mistake.  You will receive partial credit for the steps you have done correctly.  However, I need to be able to see where you attempted the problem.  I can’t help you if I can’t see where the mistakes in your thinking are!

Homework/Classwork (graded for completion & effort):

When I check for completion & effort, you will be graded according to these

criteria:

·         Did you follow the instructions for the assignment? Is your paper labeled properly? Is your name on it?

·         What level of effort did you give?

·         Did you do all the problems? Can I see where you attempted to do the ones you didn’t understand? Or does it look like you just gave up on the ones you had trouble with?

·         Is your paper neat? Can I follow your work? Does your work make sense?

·         You are expected to grade your paper in red pen---can I see where you did that? Did you just write down the correct answers or did you correct your actual WORK?

You will be assigned a score as follows:

100%   Excellent effort

95%     Very Good effort

90%     Above average effort

85%     Average Effort

80%     Acceptable Effort

75%     Barely Acceptable Effort

70%     Effort needs definite improvement

60%     Not acceptable, but fairly complete

0%       Didn’t show work, didn’t turn assignment in.
