Mrs. Sharp’s 7th Grade Mathematics

Expectations, Classroom Rules, General Procedures, and Grading Policy

2008-2009

I.                    Expectations:

·         7th grade marks the beginning of what used to be Junior High School.  It marks a time in your life when you are expected to act less like a small child and more like a young adult. I would prefer to treat you like the young adults that you are, rather than the small children that you used to be. However, it is your behavior and attitude that will dictate how you will be treated.  If you wish to be treated like a young adult, then you should be prepared to follow the expectations and procedures outlined below and in the rest of this handout.  If you choose not to follow these rules, you should be prepared to accept the consequences of your actions.  With that said, here is what I expect of you as young adults:

o        Try your best at all times.

o        Have a positive attitude.

o        Show respect to your teachers and  your classmates..

o        To be prepared for class and bring your supplies every day.

o        To help keep the room clean.

o        Ask questions when you don’t understand something.

o        Do your own work—no cheating.

o        Be responsible.

o        Be honest

o        Accept the consequences for your actions.

·         There are certain things you should expect from me. You can expect me to:

o        Try my best to teach you.

o        Have a positive attitude.

o        To treat you with respect.

o        To be prepared for class.

o        Help to keep the room clean

o        To answer your questions when you don’t understand something.

o        To return your papers in a reasonable amount of time.

o        Be responsible

o        Be honest

o        To hold you accountable for your actions.

III.                Consequences:

·         If you choose to break a classroom rule you will be held accountable.   Possible consequences may include sentences, calls home, behavior essays or card signatures.

·         For serious infractions, (disrespect, classroom disruption, repeated offenses, fights, horseplay, etc.) You will get either an automatic signature or an office referral.

·         If your behavior or lack of effort (not doing your work) is an ongoing problem, you should expect a call home.

IV.                General Procedures:

·         Enter the room quietly, sharpen your pencil if necessary and go directly to your seat.  DO NOT WAIT UNTIL CLASS HAS STARTED TO SHARPEN YOUR PENCIL!!

·         Use the restroom between classes. After all, I have to do the same.

·         No cell phones, CD players, PSP’s, DS’s, or other personal electronic devices are allowed during school hours. There is no need to have these out in class. Please note: Teachers have been directed to take these devices up.  If I have to warn you more than once, then you should expect to have them taken up to the front office.

·         If you have a question, or wish to leave your seat, raise your hand to ask permission.

·         Stay in your seat until you are dismissed.

·         Don’t ask to use the phone. I can’t let you go unless it is an extreme emergency.

·         When you are absent, YOU are responsible for finding out what you missed.

·         Do NOT answer the intercom or make comments when it is in use.
