Meet Mrs. Waltke

Hello, I'm Kristi Waltke.  I have recently been named principal of Piedmont Elementary.  I am a creative, dedicated individual who loves working with children, teachers, parents, and technology.  I look forward to the exciting and demanding position at Piedmont Elementary.

I have spent the past five months as assistant principal of Dandridge Elementary.  It was an amazing time of growth as I learned how to apply my strengths to administration.   Prior to the past five months, I spent five and a half years as a literacy coach at New Market Elementary.  As a literacy coach, I led professional development for teachers, helped struggling readers, and promoted literacy in Jefferson County Schools.

Before that, I was a teacher at Dandridge Elementary for seven years.  I taught first and second grades.  I began teaching after graduating from Carson Newman College, which I attended on academic and basketball scholarships.  I went back to Carson Newman to obtain a Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction.  I completed my Educational Specialist Degree through Lincoln Memorial University in Administration and Supervision in 2009.

Teaching runs in my family.  My mother Becky Schrader has been a kindergarten teacher in Jefferson County for more than thirty years.  I owe so much to my mother who is not only an extraordinary mom, but an exemplary teacher.  I have several aunts, cousins, and a sister-in-law who also teach in Jefferson County.

My husband Michael is a Master's level social worker with Helen Ross McNabb in Knoxville.  We have two beautiful daughters who keep us extremely busy and fulfilled.  In our spare time, we love to read and watch movies.

Many of you reading these paragraphs about me have probably clicked here after discovering my index page with its Pearson Scott Foresman Reading Street resources.  I am both amazed and thrilled with the amount of traffic that these pages have attracted. To lay your fears to rest, I plan on maintaining this website no matter my professional position.

Others of you may have found this page in connection with Piedmont Elementary.  If so, I want you to know that I will make every effort to do an exceptional job for the students at our school.
