| In social studies we will be doing an extensive study of early American history up through the civil war. There will be extra projects assigned periodically to be done at home. |
We have been studying Indians of North America. In particular, the Hopis of of the Southwest. Pueblo families taught their children the names and special powers that kachina posessed by making kachina figures. Fathers and grandfathers carved and painted the wooden figures to look lide different kichinas. By studying the figures, children learned what the figures stood for. Kachina figures were not for play. They were meant to be treasured and passed on to each child's own children. Click on the link to find the kachinas our class made. |
