Homework Policy

Your child is expected to do homework whenever it is sent home.  There is usually homework in math each night and in the Phonics part of reading.  In addition to this, your child should bring home a list of spelling words to study each Monday.   A rule of thumb in education is that a child should spend 10 minutes times the grade he is in on homework each night.  In second grade that would be 20 minutes (10X2).   I would also ask that your child read some each night out of books that you have at home.  I will send books home at various times during the year.  If a child fails to turn in homework, he is given an OOPS! Notice to take home.  Please sign this OOPS! Notice and send it back the next day.  This is a wonderful tool for school-home communication.  Each time your child has homework on time, he will receive a sticker on his homework chart that he keeps at school.  When 20 stickers are earned, he will earn a Homework Pass.  This will allow him to skip a homework assignment when necessary.  Check the assignment folder and initial it each evening.  Thanks.
