Music Study Reading Helps



The Keyboard and where the notes are located on the Grand Staff


 Half Notes - they get 2 beats in 4/4 time
We use the syllables tah-ah to help learn this rhythm


Quarter notes - they get 1 beat in 4/4 time
Quarter notes - they get 1 beat in 4/4 time.  We use the syllable "tah" to help learn this rhythm.





Eighth notes - they get 1/2 beat in 4/4 time
We use the syllables ti to help learn this rhythm.
2 eighth notes would be ti-ti






Sixteenth notes - they get 1/4 beat in 4/4 time.
We use the syllables ti-ri-ti-ri to help learn this rhythm in a combination of 4 sixteenth notes

Tempo is the speed of music:  words we learn are:

Allegro fast walking speed

Legato means smooth and connected music while staccato means disconnected or choppy.

Syncopation means off the beat

Triad is the most common type of chord....3 notes played at the same time and each note is 2 steps apart

When harmony blends together it is consonant,  when it clashes it is dissonant

Melody is the main tune of the composition.

Harmony is two or more sounds at the same time.

Music can move in steps, skips, and stay the same.

A two part song is AB form, a three part song can be ABA or ABC or ABB or AAB
